Andy,
Writing today to let you know what a pleasant surprise it has been to discover that the company you represent, United Healthcare, actually exceeded expectations. Originally, my wife and I decided to change health insurance plans and with United Health we would be able to not have to send the $400 per month premium to our current insurance company any longer.
We now deposit that $400 into a bank account each month that is our money to control. We will use this bank account to offset the possible $4500 maximum exposure we have for a major medical issue requiring hospitalization.
What we have since discovered using United Health care has exceeded our expectations. Here is what we have saved during the first 4 months with this insurance.
I went for my biannual visit to the eyeglass store to see if my prescription needed changing. In the past I would be out of pocket $40 or more for the exam. This time it cost me nothing out of pocket. I ordered a new lens prescription and new frames. In the past it would be over a $100 out of pocket. This time my total cost was $ 33 and I was able to upgrade to a better quality frame than I had used in the past. My wife saved and additional $100 on her visit for new eyeglasses.
I went for my semi annual dental cleaning. Normally I would be out of pocket $59. This time I had zero out of pocket. The dentist noticed I needed 2 surface fillings. When I went back for that treatment usually I would have had a cost of $100. This time ZER0.
Next I used the shop at home feature from the catalog of health and medical items. I ordered at no charge $59 worth of items including vitamins and even a pair of foldable readers. My wife was also able to order $60 worth of products that in the past we would have to pay for out of pocket. Even the shipping to our home was Free.
I set up my annual visit to my medical doctor. Under the new coverage he was able to expand the breath of the lab tests. Those plus my office visit were zero out of pocket. He noticed one test result that did not appear correct. He was able to have the test repeated at no charge to me under the new coverage. And he has set up an appointment in the near future to recheck all the lab work, and have another visit with him and both will have no out of pocket costs for me.
I have one prescription that can be purchased locally at a reasonable cost. I have another prescription that I order from Canada to find the lowest cost. Together these prescriptions ran about $300 per year. Under the new plan these cost me zero and they both are mailed directly to me. No more standing in line at the grocery store for a prescription that I had to pay with out of pocket funds.
To date I forecast my wife and I will save over $1000 a year in health related expenses we paid for in the past. This does count the $4800 a year that in the past we sent off to the insurance company and now we have that $4,800 cash.
I am sure as we learn more details of the coverages we have that we have not yet used the savings will become larger.
Same or better coverage for less money!
Thanks for your help to show us a better plan than we had.
Best Regards,
Jay and Dana Blint
